Tourist Arrivals and Overnight Stays in December 2025

December 2025 saw a strong festive-season performance in Slovenian tourism. Tourist accommodation establishments recorded 376,000 arrivals, an increase of 9% year-on-year, and 733,000 overnight stays, up 6%. More than a fifth of all overnight stays were generated in the capital, Ljubljana.

Foreign tourists continued to drive growth, generating two thirds of all overnight stays. There were almost 265,000 foreign arrivals (+9%) and nearly 558,000 overnight stays (+11%). The largest number of foreign overnight stays was recorded in Ljubljana, Bled and Piran. Domestic tourists accounted for a third of all overnight stays, with around 111,000 arrivals and 290,000 overnight stays (+3%). They most frequently stayed in Piran, Kranjska Gora and Podčetrtek.

Tourists from Italy generated the highest share of foreign overnight stays, accounting for 23% or 138,000 nights, an increase of 14% compared to December 2024. They were followed by tourists from Croatia, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Serbia.

Spa resorts recorded the largest share of overnight stays (27%), followed by mountain resorts (23%), which saw a notable increase compared to the previous year. Ljubljana accounted for 22% of all overnight stays, with foreign tourists representing 93% of the total in the capital.

Hotels remained the most popular accommodation type, accounting for 58% of all overnight stays, followed by private accommodation. The net occupancy rate of available bedplaces in December stood at 42%.

2025 Tourism Results at a Glance

Looking at the full year, 2025 was the strongest tourism year to date, with nearly 7 million arrivals and more than 17.8 million overnight stays, both up 6% year-on-year. Foreign tourists generated 75% of all overnight stays, led by visitors from Germany, Italy and Austria.

An interesting highlight from experimental daily data shows that the highest number of tourist arrivals was recorded on Tuesday, 30 December, with almost 30,000 tourists visiting Slovenia on that day.
