UEFA Futsal Euro 2026: Ljubljana at the Centre of European Futsal

Ljubljana will take centre stage in European futsal in 2026. Slovenia will host the final tournament of the UEFA Futsal European Championship for the second time in its history, this time as one of three host nations alongside Latvia and Lithuania. UEFA Futsal Euro 2026 will take place from 21 January to 7 February, with Ljubljana hosting key matches, including all games of the Slovenian national team and the decisive stages of the tournament.

Sixteen European national teams will compete for the continental title during the three-week championship, hosted jointly by Ljubljana, Kaunas and Riga. Ljubljana will stage the majority of matches, including all fixtures involving the home team as well as the medal matches. The reigning champions, Portugal, will defend their title at one of Slovenia’s major sporting events of 2026.

UEFA Futsal Euro 2026 introduces an expanded and even more attractive competition format, with more participating teams and three weeks of top-level sporting action. Europe’s futsal elite will gather in Ljubljana, creating a true sporting festival marked by intensity, passion and an outstanding atmosphere in the stands.

Matches involving the Slovenian national team will be played at Stožice, where the new European champions will also be crowned. One of the most anticipated evenings will be 23 January 2026: at 5:30 pm Belarus and Belgium will open the programme, followed at 8:30 pm by the highlight of the night – a high-profile clash between Slovenia and Spain, promising a true futsal spectacle.

Slovenian national futsal team head coach Tomislav Horvat has presented the list of 14 players selected for the European Championship. Slovenia’s goal is to reach at least the quarter-finals, with the head coach confident that the team has the potential to go even further and challenge for a medal.

As the national organisation responsible for developing responsible and sustainable tourism, the Slovenian Tourist Board recognises the importance of major international sporting events for Slovenia’s long-term development and global visibility. Such events not only strengthen the country’s reputation as a high-quality, sustainable destination for active holidays and sports training, but also significantly enhance the visibility and value of the national brand I FEEL SLOVENIA.

The championship will receive extensive international media coverage. Matches of UEFA Futsal Euro 2026 will be broadcast across television and digital platforms in a total of 91 countries worldwide. In selected markets, the entire tournament will also be available live and free of charge on UEFA.tv, including highlights of all matches.

As part of the accompanying programme, a documentary series titled This Is Our Futsal was launched ahead of the tournament. Spanning six episodes, the series follows the road to the European Championship, highlighting the stories of the players, the team and futsal as a sport, while further building public interest in the event. The series is available on the Football Association of Slovenia’s YouTube channel.

By hosting UEFA Futsal Euro 2026, Ljubljana and Slovenia once again reaffirm their position as a recognised sporting, event-hosting and sustainability-oriented destination, successfully linking elite sport, tourism and international promotion of the country.
