Symbolic Closing of the 2025 European Capital of Culture

Nova Gorica and Gorizia close their European Capital of Culture 2025 year with a vibrant cross-border celebration, from festive lights to cultural events highlighting the project’s impact. The week concludes on December 5 with the official handover of the ECoC title to Trenčín and Oulu for 2026.

Nova Gorica and Gorizia will mark the symbolic closing of the European Capital of Culture 2025 with a week of festive events shared with Chemnitz. The celebrations begin on Saturday, November 29, with the ceremonial lighting of cross-border festive lights and a special St. Andrew’s Fair with local artisans, homemade crafts, and holiday treats.

Throughout the week, EPIC will host conferences, cultural programmes, and discussions on the impact and legacy of GO! 2025, including the first evaluation results and plans for future cross-border cooperation.

Cultural highlights include film screenings, talks with renowned artists, and a public consultation on the long-term heritage of the ECoC.

The programme culminates on Friday, December 5, at Europe Square, where Nova Gorica, Gorizia, and Chemnitz will officially hand over the European Capital of Culture title to Trenčín and Oulu for 2026, followed by a festive Borderless Party uniting artists and audiences from all four countries.
