Tadej Pogačar Greets Fans in Komenda: “Soon I’ll Share Even More of Slovenia”

The electric atmosphere that so many fans experienced during the Slovenia-themed Tour de France had a spectacular encore last weekend in Komenda, hometown of Tadej Pogačar. A sea of local and international supporters lined the scenic course of the Tadej Pogačar Criterium, creating a setting that reminded the three Slovenian Tour participants of the final stage up Montmartre in Paris. Komenda or Paris – wherever he rides, Tadej Pogačar is always a winner!

Pogačar’s Social Media Wave Showcases Slovenia

As an ambassador of Slovenian tourism, Pogačar never misses an opportunity to present his homeland – its landscapes, towns and the devoted fans who never fail to surprise him. By actively featuring Slovenia, the I feel Slovenia brand and local destinations, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) generated strong visibility for the country even before the criterium began.

In just a few days, the STB created more than 30 content pieces across its social channels, sparking over 30,000 interactions. Comments praised Pogačar’s achievements and shared personal experiences from around Slovenia. Monitoring tools also recorded over 800 related posts from both domestic and foreign visitors, as well as international media covering the event.

Pogačar Brings Slovenia to Fellow Cyclists

Over the weekend, the popular cycling routes beneath the Kamnik–Savinja Alps attracted countless enthusiasts eager to catch a glimpse of the champion and his friends.

When Pogačar’s fiancée, Urška Žigart, shared a video of their ride up Krvavec and through Cerklje na Gorenjskem and Komenda, it ignited a wave of excitement –Pogačar was home to greet and thank his loyal supporters. The video quickly went viral, even appearing on the social media channels of TNT Sports (part of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports), which reach more than 130 million sports fans each month in 200 markets worldwide.

Despite a packed global race schedule, Pogačar spent 9 August – and the two days prior – cycling across Slovenia. Together with WorldTour teammates Pavel Sivakov and Matteo Trentin, joined by Matej Mohorič, Luka Mezgec, Urška Žigart and friends, he showcased his favourite local routes. His Instagram post, accompanied by vivid impressions of cycling in Slovenia, drew over 250,000 likes.

Four-Time Tour Winner Takes First Victory at His Own Criterium

The Tadej Pogačar Criterium in Komenda attracted major media coverage and an endless crowd of fans, some of whom extended their holidays in Slovenia just to see the star in person. Although Pogačar had competed in the race before, this was his first time taking the top podium spot. After four Tour de France victories, it was finally time to win on home roads.

The one-kilometre loop through Komenda—lined with flags, banners and cheering crowds – offered an atmosphere worthy of the Tour’s most memorable moments. Joined by fellow WorldTour riders, Pogačar delivered a thrilling display of speed, skill and the spirit of top-level cycling.
