Gastronomy Stories from Slovenia: When Summer Spreads Its Wings

Every two months, Gastronomy Stories from Slovenia take you on an exciting journey through the vibrant and captivating world of Slovenian cuisine. Discover the summer edition.

The sun is high, the days are long, and gentle evenings invite light yet rich culinary experiences. Slovenian cuisine shines in summer with the freshness of nature –simple, seasonal and full of life. In Piran, Stara gostilna, led by chef Kristian Zule, combines Istrian tradition with creative elegance, while Dvor Jezeršek in Upper Carniola, under the guidance of chef Klemen Maletič, offers modern Slovenian flavours rooted in rich tradition.

Summer in Slovenia calls for exploring wine routes, rivers and lakes, where local delights – refreshing soups, salads, marinated fish, and fruity desserts – pamper the palate.

BeKa: Goat Yogurt as a Way of Life

In the village of Zavrhek, where the Karst meets the Brkini Hills, BeKa is redefining boutique dairy in Slovenia. Founded by Anton Papež and his daughter Katarina Delor Papež, the family farm turned to goat farming eleven years ago – with 50 Austrian goats and a renovated barn. Today, their herd of Chamois-coloured goats has grown to 120, with milk also sourced from two nearby farms, totalling 250 goats.
