Celebrate 120 Years of Slovenian Film

Celebrate 120 Years of Slovenian Film

This summer, experience Slovenian cinematic magic like never before – at Lake Jasna in the heart of the Julian Alps.

On Saturday, 5 July 2025, the Slovenian Cinematheque and the Slovenian Film Centre invite you to a spectacular lakeside screening of the digitally restored Kekec (1951), the legendary youth film that has touched generations. Imagine watching this national treasure under the open sky, surrounded by mountains and crystal-clear water – exactly where Slovenia’s timeless stories feel most alive.

The celebration continues with three nights of unforgettable open-air screenings, all free to attend:

  • 6 July: Srečno Kekec (Jože Gale, 1963), a joyful sequel to the opening night’s classic.
  • 7 July: A rare treat – In the Kingdom of the Goldhorn (V kraljestvu Zlatoroga, Janko Ravnik, 1931), Slovenia’s first feature-length film, accompanied by a live quartet.
  • 8 July: A double feature of modern adventure with Going Our Way (Miha Hočevar, 2010) and Going Our Way 2 (Miha Hočevar, 2013), capturing the spirit of Slovenian youth and nature. These screenings will take place in Ljudski dom in Kranjska Gora.

In case of rain, all films will be shown in the nearby Vitranc Hall.

Whether you’re a film lover, a mountain explorer, or simply looking for a magical evening in Slovenia, this is your chance to dive into the nation’s cinematic soul in one of its most scenic settings.
