The visit marked a historic moment, as Prime Minister Robert Golob became the first Slovenian Prime Minister to visit the UNWTO headquarters. In his remarks following the meeting, Prime Minister Golob underlined Slovenia’s long-standing dedication to tourism, noting that this year the country celebrates two important milestones: the 30th anniversary of the Slovenian Tourist Board and the 120th anniversary of the Tourist Association of Slovenia.

“We believe in tourism – and that tourism is about people,” said the Prime Minister. “It is people who are the true drivers of sustainable tourism and we are committed to promoting this philosophy globally.”

Slovenia is currently running for membership on the Executive Council of the UNWTO, as part of its broader effort to actively contribute to the global dialogue on sustainable tourism development.

The Prime Minister highlighted Slovenia’s globally recognised efforts in preserving nature and cultural authenticity, as well as its focus on quality over quantity in tourism growth. He also expressed appreciation for the continued presence of UNWTO representatives at the Bled Strategic Forum, reinforcing the strong ties between Slovenia and the organisation.

Secretary-General Pololikashvili praised Slovenia’s achievements in tourism, describing the country as one of the leading global examples of sustainable and green tourism development. He also highlighted the power of Slovenia’s national brand and the role of the ambassadors of Slovenian tourism – including sports icons Luka Dončić, Janja Garnbret and Jan Oblak—in raising global awareness of Slovenia as a destination.
