100 Years of Terme Čatež: A Century of Splashing, Spa and Celebration

Located just an hour’s drive from Ljubljana and Zagreb, near the town of Brežice, Terme Čatež is Slovenia’s largest and most iconic thermal resort. In 2025, it proudly marks 100 years of organized tourism—celebrating a century of wellness, family fun, and thermal tradition.

Nestled at the confluence of the Sava and Krka rivers, near the town of Brežice and the Croatian border, Terme Čatež has grown from a modest health resort into a year-round haven for wellness seekers, thrill-loving families and spa enthusiasts alike.

From Aristocratic Beginnings to a Thermal Empire

The healing power of Čatež’s thermal springs has been recognized for more than two centuries, but it was in 1925 that the Counts of Attems established the first hotel, laying the groundwork for organized tourism. Designed for upper-class guests, the original resort offered 34 rooms and 18 bathing cabins. Over the decades, Terme Čatež has grown into one of Central Europe’s most celebrated thermal destinations, boasting a wide range of accommodations—from hotels and apartments to a campsite and even a pirate-themed waterpark hotel.

Today, it is best known for its Thermal Riviera, a vast aquatic playground that includes the Summer Thermal Riviera – Slovenia’s largest outdoor water park – and the Winter Thermal Riviera, a tropical indoor complex open all year round.

Summer 2025

On 30 May 2025, the full Summer Thermal Riviera reopened for the season. While most attractions were available immediately, the waterslides – a crowd favourite – will reopen on 21 June, coinciding with the resort’s centenary celebration.

Adding to the fun, a new 77-metre indoor waterslide, called Kong, has recently opened at the Winter Thermal Riviera. It holds the title of Slovenia’s longest indoor slide and comes with dazzling light effects, providing an electrifying new experience for thrill-seekers.

A Grand 100-Year Celebration

The biggest highlight of the year will take place on Saturday, 21 June, when Terme Čatež hosts a festive day at the Summer Thermal Riviera, open from 9 AM to 9 PM. Entry is granted via e-ticket, and a celebratory accommodation package includes access to both the Summer and Winter Thermal Riviera, buffet meals, animation programmes, and free stays for two children.
