Pedal the Green Way: Celebrating World Bicycle Day in Slovenia

Every year on June 3, Slovenia proudly joins the global celebration of World Bicycle Day, recognizing the bicycle as a symbol of sustainable mobility, health and freedom. In a country where cycling is deeply woven into everyday life and elite sport alike, this day carries special significance.

With numerous cycling routes, from Alpine peaks to vineyard valleys and high-mountain singletracks, Slovenia is a true paradise for cyclists of all levels. Cities like Ljubljana and Maribor, lead the way in cycling infrastructure and sustainable urban planning.

Ever since Tadej Pogačar and Primož Roglič, who are also ambassadors of Slovenian tourism, became household names, the number of cyclists on Slovenian roads has soared. Cycling is no longer just a sport here– it’s a movement.

That movement is also deeply compassionate. Our top cyclists are actively involved in numerous charity initiatives, using their platform to give back to the community and support those in need. One notable example is the S Klanca v klanc ride, organised by Tadej Pogačar, which brings together fans, athletes, and supporters for a good cause. All proceeds from the accompanying charity auction are donated to the Tadej Pogačar Foundation, which supports a wide range of activities –organising charity events, donating sports equipment to young athletes, collaborating with research institutions, and launching awareness campaigns that promote health, inclusion and access to sport.
