Multi-day Event for Foreign Media Puts Nature Experiences in the Spotlight

Last week, Slovenian Tourist Board hosted a group of international journalists from nine countries during a multi-day media event titled Slovenia. My Way of Green Escape, which highlighted the country’s natural beauty, authenticity and commitment to sustainability.

Organized by the Slovenian Tourist Board in partnership with Slovenia Outdoor and destinations, the event invited prominent foreign journalists to discover Slovenia through exciting experiences that showcased both its pristine landscapes and the people who care for them with love and environmental awareness.

The itinerary led the group through four destinations—Kamnik with Velika Planina, Ribnica, Kočevsko and Bela Krajina—each known for sustainable development, rich cultural heritage and pristine nature.

Journalists from the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark, the United States and Spain began their journey at the Slovenia Eco Resort in Kamnik, where they enjoyed a superb dinner.

The following day, they explored Velika planina, where centuries-old herders' traditions are still alive. They visited iconic mountain huts, Plečnik’s Chapel and Preskar’s Hut, which houses a small mountain museum. They also discovered the story behind trnič, the so-called “cheese of love” traditionally gifted by herders to their beloved.

Next, the group traveled to Ribnica, where they tried their hand at traditional handicrafts like basket weaving at the Ribnica Handicraft Centre. A visit to BioSing followed, renowned for its innovative aging of organic meats made from game and indigenous pig breeds using ancient recipes. The day concluded with an overnight at Škrabec’s homestead and the elegant Vila De Casa.

Friday was dedicated to the pristine nature of the Kočevsko region, known for its vast forests and as the natural habitat of bears, wolves and lynxes. The day began with a cycling adventure, followed by a lunch featuring local specialties at the Tri Zvezde Inn. A guided forest walk offered the chance to track wildlife. In the evening, the group relaxed at the Balnea Hotel in Dolenjske Toplice and took part in a relaxation and mindfulness programme the next morning.

The final day brought them to Bela Krajina, with a visit to the Gače ski resort in Kočevski Rog—also a popular summer hub for mountain biking and authentic culinary experiences. The program included a scenic e-bike ride through Kočevski Rog, canoeing down the Kolpa River from Podbrežje near the Kuzma Farmhouse, and a festive dinner at the Kolpa Resort, accompanied by a Bela Krajina folklore performance.
