Kog25 Pannonia Wine Festival Connects Nine Countries

The inaugural Kog25 Pannonia wine festival, held from April 5 to 7 in the picturesque village of Kog in Prlekija, brought together wine enthusiasts from across Europe, showcasing over 100 exceptional wines from nine countries.

The premiere edition of the Kog25 Pannonia wine festival took place in Kog, a charming village in the far east of Slovenia, nestled in the heart of Prlekija. This inaugural event proved that even in the most remote corners of Slovenia, stories with global potential are born. Held from Saturday, April 5, to Monday, April 7, Kog25 Pannonia attracted an eager audience from Slovenia and beyond, drawing wine enthusiasts to Prlekija and offering them the chance to taste over 100 selected wines from nine European countries.

For connoisseurs of fine wine, the debut of this event offered a boutique and immersive experience that went far beyond a mere tasting. Three varieties of wine, emblematic of the region, were featured: Šipon, Welsch Riesling and Blue Franconian. Alongside the wines, visitors were treated to an array of culinary delights from local producers, enhancing the sensory experience and connecting guests to the region’s rich gastronomic heritage.

The initiative for this exceptional festival came from two wineries in Kog, whose founders shared a bold vision of establishing the event as a "wine Davos." The visionary couple, Sinead and Liam Cabot from Roka Winery, along with father and son Miro and Grega Munda from Miro Vino, sought to highlight the exceptional potential of the Pannonian region and raise global awareness of the wines from eastern Slovenia. Their efforts brought together winemakers from Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia, ensuring the event’s international appeal and creating a truly diverse and enriching experience for all.

The event was further elevated by the presence of some of the world’s most respected wine journalists, who took an active interest in the stories of local winemakers and the unique specialties of the region. Their participation, facilitated by the Slovenian Tourist Board, highlighted the country’s growing recognition as a premier boutique wine destination. Among the international guests were David Schildknecht from the USA (World of Fine Wine), Tamlyn Currin from the UK (JancisRobinson.com), Simon Woolf from the Netherlands (The Morning Claret, Amber Revolution and other books), Thomas Bohl from Denmark (Flaskevis), Darrel Joseph from Austria (Decanter Magazine), Sue Tolson from Hungary (Wine Sofa) and Zsolt Lukasz from Ireland, the current Michelin Sommelier of the Year 2025 for the UK and Ireland.
