Planica Ski Marathon 2025: A Historic First in the Euroloppet Series

Planica Ski Marathon 2025: A Historic First in the Euroloppet Series

The Planica Ski Marathon is set to take place on February 1 and 2, marking an exciting milestone in its history. For the first time, this premier cross-country skiing event joins the prestigious Euroloppet Series, elevating its status on the international stage and further promoting the sport in Slovenia. The event proudly takes place under the auspices of the I feel Slovenia brand.

The competition will unfold on the Rateče-Planica cross-country trails, starting from the Planica Nordic Centre. The first day will feature a skating technique competition, while the second day will be dedicated to classic technique. Participants can choose from distances of 21 km, 10 km and 5 km, along with the Kekec Run for children. Due to limited snowfall, the originally planned 42 km route has been shortened to 21 km, with the course consisting of 2.6 km loops to ensure a competitive and engaging race.

Organized by SPORTHUB d.o.o. and ND Rateče-Planica, the event’s inclusion in the Euroloppet Series has drawn widespread international interest. This year, athletes from as many as 19 countries are expected to compete, including approximately 100 foreign competitors, further solidifying the Planica Ski Marathon as a key international cross-country skiing event.

The Slovenian Tourist Board, as a leader in sustainable tourism development, recognizes the significance of such international sporting events. As a result, the Planica Ski Marathon is held under the auspices of I feel Slovenia brand, the Municipality of Kranjska Gora and TOSIDOS – the Slovenian Marathon Cup.
