Slovenia Hosts the World Para Skiing Championships for the First Time

From February 2 to 11, 2025, Slovenia will host the FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships in Maribor, marking the first time the country has organized such a prestigious event. Previously, Slovenia has only hosted comparable competitions at the World Cup level.

The event is organized by Marprom and Šport Maribor, under the auspices of the Maribor Public Holding and the Municipality of Maribor. It has received the support of the International Ski Organization (FIS) and the Slovenian Ski Association.

A Global Event with International Appeal

This championship promises to be a thrilling international spectacle, as the participants come from 33 countries, with 135 competitors and 200 accompanying persons, including large teams from China and the USA.

The competition will be broadcast live, allowing fans from around the world to watch the thrilling events unfold. The broadcast, facilitated by FIS's live TV system and social media platforms, will help raise Slovenia’s profile on the global stage, especially given Maribor’s strong presence in the skiing world through the organization of World Cup competitions like the Golden Fox.

Thrilling Alpine Disciplines and Training Sessions

The championship will feature three days of official training, including free skiing and two downhill training sessions, followed by five days of intense competition across all alpine skiing disciplines as per FIS rules. The events will include both men’s and women’s competitions in downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom and alpine combined, held on the slopes of Habakuk and the Snow Stadium.

Competitors will be classified into three groups based on their level of disability: visually and hearing-impaired skiers, skiers with lower limb disabilities and skiers with other physical disabilities.

Exciting Accompanying Activities

In addition to the competition, the event will feature various activities such as the official opening, daily announcements of results at the Snow Stadium and press conferences. A press centre will also be available for media coverage.

The Slovenian Tourist Board recognizes the significance of such international sports events in enhancing Slovenia's image as a leading destination for active recreation and athletic training. By hosting the World Para Skiing Championships, Slovenia is further strengthening its reputation as a responsible and accessible destination, while also reinforcing the values of the I Feel Slovenia brand.
