The Walk of Peace Receives the Prestigious "Connecting Cultures" Award at the CMT Fair in Stuttgart

The Walk of Peace a stunning hiking trail that stretches from the Alps, through the Soča Valley, the Brda region, the Gorizia area, and down to the Adriatic Sea, has been honored with the internationally recognized "Connecting Cultures" award. This prestigious accolade is presented by the Corps Touristique association in collaboration with the German professional magazine fvw/TravelTalk and the CMT Stuttgart fair, one of Central Europe's largest tourism events.

The award ceremony took place at the CMT fair, where Rebeka Kumer Bizjak, head of the STB representative office in Germany, and Sandra Battigaglia, head of public relations at Promo Turismo Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG), accepted the award on behalf of the Walk of Peace Foundation. The event was attended by numerous international media representatives, political figures, tourism organizations and partners who recognized the significance of the Walk of Peace as a symbol of sustainability, heritage and the power of connecting cultures. The award was co-presented by Sven Liebert, German State Secretary of the Federal Association for the Tourism Industry and Manuel Hagel, representative of the Baden-Württemberg government.

The Walk of Peace connects key World War I heritage sites from the Alps to the Adriatic, including the historic Isonzo Front. This exceptional hiking trail emphasizes the values of peace, understanding and intercultural dialogue. At the award ceremony, the Walk of Peace was highlighted as an exemplary model of sustainable and responsible tourism that not only preserves historical memory but also fosters connections among international visitors to this unique European region.

Maša Klavora from the Walk of Peace Foundation expressed her gratitude, stating: "This award is primarily a recognition of the long-term work and collaboration of many individuals and organizations from Slovenia and Italy across various fields such as research, conservation, education, promotion, management, and sustainable development. The success of this project lies in our shared vision and belief in our mission, which we approach with passion, dedication, and sincerity. The idea behind the Walk of Peace is expanding to other World War I sites worldwide, and unfortunately, it remains incredibly relevant in today's world. The Walk of Peace, from the Alps to the Adriatic, is not just a 500 km cross-border cultural trail, but a powerful message of how communities along borders—often marked by the scars of war—can come together through culture, tourism, research, and development."

The Connecting Cultures award, presented for the third time this year, recognizes destinations or projects that demonstrate innovative and sustainable approaches to cultural connection. In addition to Slovenia and Italy, projects from Ireland and Bulgaria also received the award, underscoring the global importance of such initiatives.

The Slovenian Tourist Board extends its heartfelt thanks to the Walk of Peace Foundation and Promo Turismo FVG for their exceptional collaboration and dedication to this project. Their hard work strengthens Slovenia's position as a destination where natural beauty and cultural heritage converge to tell a unique story. The "Connecting Cultures" award serves as inspiration for future initiatives that will enhance Slovenia's international recognition and promote sustainable tourism.

Through its representative office in Germany, the Slovenian Tourist Board remains committed to further promoting the Walk of Peace as a symbolic bridge between the past and the future, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for those who cherish the values of peace, respect and coexistence.

The award was reported by Germany's largest professional tourism magazine fvw/TravelTalk.
