2024 Brought Record-Approaching Overnight Stays in Bled

In 2024, 481,213 guests generated 1,150,708 overnight stays in Bled, marking a 6% increase in overnight stays and an 8% rise in visitors compared to 2023. The year came very close to matching the record-breaking 1,151,831 overnight stays achieved in 2018.

Italian Guests Led Overnight Stays in December

In December 2024, 19,354 visitors created 41,132 overnight stays, with an average length of stay of 2.1 days. The largest number of guests came from Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, the United States, Serbia and France. Most guests stayed in hotels (58%), followed by apartments (23%), rooms or apartments in private homes (9%), and other types of accommodation (10%).

10% of all overnight stays in December were made by Slovenian guests, highlighting strong domestic interest.

In 2024, a Thousand Fewer Overnight Stays Than in the Record Year of 2018

In 2024, Bled welcomed 481,213 guests, who generated 1,150,708 overnight stays, with an average stay of 2.4 days. This represents a 6% increase in overnight stays and an 8% increase in visitors compared to 2023, when 442,073 guests generated 1,083,034 overnight stays. Bled remains Slovenia’s third most-visited municipality, following Ljubljana and Piran in terms of overnight stays.

In 2018, More Than One Million Overnight Stays Were Recorded in Bled

Back in 2017, visitors generated 907,419 overnight stays in Bled. The following year, a record 1,151,831 overnight stays was achieved. In 2019, there were 1,132,574 overnight stays, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, the numbers dropped significantly, with 438,831 overnight stays recorded in 2020.

Recovery began in 2021, with 568,062 overnight stays, followed by steady growth to 959,084 overnight stays in 2022.

An Increase in the Number of Visitors to Bled Castle

Bled Castle welcomed 440,077 visitors in 2024, a 7% increase compared to 2023. Among them, 146,041 were domestic guests, while 294,036 were international visitors.

  • 60% of visitors were individual guests.
  • 30% visited as part of organized groups.
  • 10% pre-booked tables at the castle’s restaurant.

The majority of visitors came from Slovenia (30%), followed by the United States (10%), Korea (10%), Hungary (6%), Italy (5%), Germany (5%), Croatia (4%), Great Britain (4%), France (3%) and the Czech Republic (2%).

Additionally, 44 couples were married at Bled Castle in 2024, of which 9 couples had either the bride or groom of Slovenian origin.

Bled Castle: The Best Area of Slavic Heritage

The year 2024 was a remarkable success for the Institute of Culture Bled. Key achievements included:

  • Restoration and conservation work on the altar of St. Peter and the wooden balcony in the castle chapel, completed in autumn.
  • Partnership with the National Museum of Slovenia to prepare a new museum collection, set to open on the ground floor in 2025 and expand to the first floor by 2026.
  • Renewed focus on the elevator construction project.

These efforts earned Bled Castle the Živa Award for the Best Area of Slavic Heritage, solidifying its status as a leading cultural and historical destination.
