Top Sports Events 2025 – Cheer with Us!

Slovenia is gearing up for a year filled with thrilling sports events in 2025. What are the key dates to circle on your calendar? 

Winter Highlights in Slovenia

This winter, cheer on your sports heroes at some of the most prestigious World Cup events in alpine skiing, ski jumping, cross-country skiing and snowboarding:

  • Female Alpine Skiers in Kranjska Gora kicked off the sports year 2025.
  • January 25: World Cup snowboarders take the stage in Rogla.
  • February 4–9: History will be made as Pokljuka hosts the Para-Biathlon World Championship for the first time.
  • February 15–16: Witness the women’s ski jumping spectacle in Ljubno ob Savinji.
  • March 1–2: The Men’s Vitranc Cup in Kranjska Gora promises intense alpine skiing action.
  • March 10–16: Pokljuka welcomes the IBU Biathlon World Cup.
  • March 28–30: Planica concludes the season with its traditional World Cup Ski Jumping Final at the iconic Gorišek Brothers Flying Hill.

Sports Highlights in Warmer Months

Slovenia’s spring and summer are all about cycling, running and international sporting showcases:

  • May 24: The legendary Giro d’Italia returns, with its 14th stage ending in Nova Gorica.
  • June 4–8: The 31st Tour of Slovenia promises five thrilling stages as part of the UCI ProSeries.
  • June 19–22: The Veteran European Rowing Championship takes place in scenic Bled.
  • June 27–29: Maribor will host Slovenia’s largest-ever athletics event, the European Team Athletics Championship (2nd and 3rd division).
  • July 16–20: Volleyball enthusiasts can support Team Slovenia in Ljubljana during the Elite Nations League (VNL) Tournament.
  • August 28–31: Tacen will host the Kayak and Canoe World Cup.
  • Early September: Slovenia’s climbing icon, Janja Garnbret, takes centre stage at the World Cup in Koper.
  • October 18–19: Don’t miss the Ljubljana Marathon, the country’s largest recreational event.

Slovenian Athletes on the Global Stage

Beyond hosting, Slovenian athletes will shine at global venues:

  • January 14–February 2: The World Handball Championship in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway.
  • February–October: Follow cycling stars Tadej Pogačar and Primož Roglič as they compete in the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta.
  • March: Slovenian footballers will aim to stay in the Nations League’s second tier and kick off their 2026 World Cup qualification.
  • August 27–September 14: Luka Dončić and the Slovenian basketball team will compete in the European Basketball Championship in Cyprus, Finland, Poland, and Latvia.
  • September 12–28: Slovenian volleyball players head to the World Volleyball Championship in the Philippines.

I Feel Slovenia at International Sports Events

In 2025, the STB will support over 70 international sports events held in Slovenia, emphasizing the promotion of Slovenian tourism and the I Feel Slovenia brand. A public call for event organizers is currently open, inviting partnerships that highlight Slovenia as a top sports destination.
