Koper Secures Sport Climbing World Cup Until 2028

The Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) has proudly announced that the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) has confirmed Koper as the host city for the Sport Climbing World Cup for the next four years, extending its tenure until at least 2028. This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional organization of the event, which has firmly positioned the Slovenian Coast as one of the premier climbing destinations globally over the past three years.

IFSC World Cup Koper 2024, held in September, was a resounding success, earning the distinction of being rated the best World Cup stop of the year by competitors and teams alike. This accolade underscores Slovenia's rich climbing tradition and its ability to meet and exceed the high standards set by the global climbing community.

Slovenia’s legacy in hosting World Cup events is unparalleled. From 1996 to 2021, Kranj welcomed 25 competitions before the event transitioned to Koper in 2022 due to increasing IFSC requirements. Since then, Koper has emerged as a shining example of excellence, joining elite venues like Salt Lake City, Chamonix and Innsbruck. The popularity of the event is further reinforced by the overwhelming support of athletes, including Slovenia's own climbing superstar and two-time Olympic champion, Janja Garnbret, who has confirmed her participation in the 2025 edition on 5 and 6 September.

As the global appeal of sport climbing continues to rise, the The Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) is advocating for greater state support to ensure the seamless organization of this internationally significant event. Beyond the competition itself, the World Cup in Koper serves as a powerful platform to promote Slovenian climbing excellence and the stunning Slovenian Coast as a top-tier global destination for climbers and visitors. IFSC World Cup Koper 2025 at the Koper Plus Climbing Centre will take place on 5 and 6 September, serving as the final stop before the World Championships in Seoul, which will mark the end of the competition season.
