A Stunning Promotional Video on Slovenian Gastronomy Takes Centre Stage in Top Global Tourism Films

A promotional video showcasing sustainable Slovenian gastronomy, told through the story of biodynamic producers, achieved an impressive fourth place in the tourism product category at the 36th World Tourism Film Awards in Valencia.

This year, the From Garden to Heaven #tasteslovenia video has garnered numerous prestigious international awards, further elevating Slovenia’s visibility as a sustainable gastronomic destination offering exceptional 5-star experiences. The video has participated in festivals worldwide, earning accolades that contributed to its impressive fourth-place ranking in the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT). It received a Silver Award at the World Tourism Film Festival in Japan, a Bronze Award at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards in April, a Silver Award at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards in September, and a Gold Award at the Terres Travel Festival - Films & Creativity in Tortosa, Spain. Additionally, it triumphed at the Art & Tourism Festival in Portugal.

These achievements culminated in a well-deserved fourth-place in the World Tourism Product category at the 2024 World Tourism Film Awards, organized by CIFFT, with the support of UN Tourism.

The awards were presented to the top five promotional films in the categories of cities, regions, countries, services and products. With over 4,000 tourism films competing across this year’s festivals, just 120 made it to the shortlist and only 29 were awarded. Each winner received a unique, handcrafted statue from renowned Portuguese artist Nuno Martins.

However, the video’s success extends beyond its CIFFT participation. At the 6th International Tourism Film Festival in South Africa, it claimed the prestigious Gold Award.

Slovenian gastronomy is celebrated for its garden-to-table philosophy, a distinctive strength that sets Slovenian chefs apart, offering them direct access to fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. The video offers a captivating behind-the-scenes glimpse into the personal journey of Jeanne Dumas Chalifour and Matteo Monterumisi, biodynamic growers and goat farmers who live in the small village of Srednje in north-west Slovenia. Their deep connection with nature and its rhythms, which they follow to ensure the highest nutritional value and aesthetic appeal, led them to work with one of the world’s top chefs, Ana Roš Stojan. As local suppliers to the at that time two-Michelin-starred Hiša Franko, Jeanne and Matteo’s philosophy of farming as an art form perfectly aligns with Roš’s culinary vision. Their shared commitment to sustainability culminated in the creation of exceptional gastronomic experiences, where ingredients from their garden seamlessly made their way to the tables at Hiša Franko, elevating the farm-to-table concept to new heights.

The video, produced by Tent and directed by Ciril Jazbec in 2022, captures a pivotal moment when Hiša Franko was the exclusive holder of two Michelin stars. It forms part of a captivating series of four first-person video stories that showcase the key products of Slovenian tourism, offering an intimate glimpse into the people, traditions and sustainable practices that define the country’s gastronomic excellence.

For the first time this year, the final segment of the CIFFT Circuit 2024 included a media conference featuring the World Tourism Film Talks, which comprised three moderated discussions and a best practice presentation. The sessions explored the power of video as an effective promotional tool, how video production can create memorable experiences, why tourism is most effectively marketed through video and the essence of creativity in such productions.

The final discussion, focused on sustainable tourism and the role of video in promoting sustainability, included insights from Tina Sračnjek from the Content Digital Marketing Department at the Slovenian Tourist Board. She highlighted the critical importance of sustainability in tourism, detailing its practical implications in Slovenia and offering guidance on how to approach sustainability in promotional content without over-promising or misleading potential guests. Moderated by Fernando Monedero, COO of Normmal, a company dedicated to sustainability in tourism, the panel also featured Ramon Adillon, CEO of Skal International, and Jaume Mata, Head of Sustainable Tourism at Visit Valencia, the European Green Capital for 2024.
