Ravne na Koroškem: Where Holiday Magic and Heritage Unite

As the largest town in the Koroška region, Ravne na Koroškem is renowned for its rich history of ironworking, sports and iron sculptures known as Forma vivas, as well as its strong literary tradition. In December, the town transforms into a fairytale destination.

The holiday-decorated streets and the vibrant events in the town center invite both locals and visitors to experience the magic of the season together. The central venue for the events is the main town square (Mestni plato), where a variety of activities for all generations will take place. The festivities also come to life in the old town on Partizanska Street.

The events, which kick off with a dazzling display of holiday lights, accompanied by the fiery spectacle of a Krampus performance, will bring together music, entertainment, and cultural performances, creating a vibrant and joyful holiday atmosphere. At the holiday market, visitors can indulge in Christmas treats, shop for unique products, and take home souvenirs that will become part of the festive atmosphere.

About the Town in Brief

The town’s cultural evolution is reflected in its extensive collections housed at the Central Carinthian Library and the fascinating museum exhibits showcasing its ironwork industry. At Preški vrh above Kotlje, visitors can explore "Prežihova bajta," the memorial museum dedicated to the renowned writer Lovro Kuhar – Prežihov Voranc. Nestled beneath the imposing Uršlja gora, the stunning Ivarčko Lake offers a tranquil water paradise. In the old town, the modern Sports Centre complements the area’s lively atmosphere, while the preserved technical heritage at the old steel factory serves as a gateway to the region’s cultural tourism, linking the past with the present.
