6 New Experiences Added to the Slovenia Unique Collection

As part of the Call for Slovenia Unique Experiences 2024, the Slovenian Tourist Board has added 6 new experiences to its prestigious "Slovenia Unique Experiences" collection. Among them, the Ljubljana Castle Experience – Culinary Time Machine has earned the distinguished Sejalec 2024 title.

6 New Experiences Added to the Slovenia Unique Collection

A total of 26 new experiences were submitted, each vying for a place in the prestigious Slovenia Unique Experiences Collection and for the highly sought-after Sejalec 2024 finalist title. After thorough evaluation by a six-member expert jury, 6 experiences were selected. 

1. Culinary Time Machine, Ljubljana Castle

Embark on a culinary journey through the history of Ljubljana Castle with costumed guides who bring the past to life with authentic dishes and intriguing stories. This six-course culinary experience takes guests on a fascinating walk through six key historical periods. At each stop, visitors taste contemporary versions of historical dishes, expertly crafted by the castle's chefs, paired with wines to complement the flavours of the past.

2. Rowing with the Olympians on Lake Bled, Miha Pirih s.p.

Sport lovers can immerse themselves in the timeless tradition of rowing at Lake Bled, guided by Olympic medal-winning athletes. This hands-on experience allows visitors to learn the fundamentals of rowing in real racing boats on the world’s most picturesque rowing course.

3. Wild Soča Valley Through the Lens, Dvorec Hotel 

Embark on a journey into the heart of the Soča Valley's untamed wilderness, guided by an experienced game ranger. Together, visitors trace the migration paths of chamois, ibex, marmots, wild cats and other elusive creatures, learning to identify their tracks along the way.

4. Break your Bela Krajina Flatbread with Friends – Bela Krajina Cake Baking Workshop, Zavod Metlika

Discover the art of making the traditional belokranjska pogača, a savoruy flatbread infused with cumin seeds and topped with coarse salt. In this hands-on workshop, visitors learn the recipe and the unique method of breaking the warm bread by hand, just as the locals do. Beyond baking, the experience is a gateway to connecting with the local community, exploring their traditions, history and everyday life.

5. Creative Handicraft Workshops, Ljubljana Tourism

Step into the rich tapestry of Ljubljana’s artisanal heritage through workshops led by seasoned craftspeople. Explore the studios of the city’s last traditional artisans, including an umbrella maker, a weaver, a printer, a potter and Slovenia’s only goldsmith and silversmith.

6. Charcoal Burner For a Day, Srce Slovenije Development Centre

Join three generations of the Brinovec family in the timeless craft of charcoal making. Roll up your sleeves, learn to fire and shape the charcoal pile and witness the mesmerizing transformation of wood into charcoal. By participating in this centuries-old tradition, visitors not only gain hands-on experience in one of the world's oldest artisanal practices but also contribute to preserving this vital cultural and handicraft heritage for future generations.
