With passenger numbers rising by 17% compared to last year, Fraport Slovenia anticipates welcoming over 1.4 million travelers by year-end.

Charter Flights to 15 Destinations

This winter season, passengers can explore a range of charter destinations. Organized by Slovenian travel agencies, travellers will have the opportunity to fly to popular locations including Italy (Puglia, Sicily), Greece (Thessaloniki), Portugal (Porto, Azores), Spain (Madrid, Tenerife, Gran Canaria), Cape Verde, Turkey (Antalya), France (Paris), Malta, Egypt (Hurghada), Finland (Rovaniemi) and Pristina.

Significant Passenger Growth of 17%

From January to the end of September 2024, Ljubljana Airport welcomed over 1,135,000 passengers, reflecting a robust 17% growth compared to the same period last year. Public passenger transport experienced similar growth in October, although this trend is expected to moderate during the quieter winter season. Slovenia remains a seasonal destination, resulting in significantly lower demand for air travel in winter compared to summer, prompting airlines to scale back their flight schedules.

Fraport Slovenia anticipates handling more than 1.4 million passengers by year-end, achieving a 92% recovery of pre-pandemic traffic levels in terms of passenger numbers. This recovery comes despite the permanent loss of its role as a Balkan hub since 2019, which had previously accounted for 200,000 transfer passengers who did not set foot in Slovenia. Encouragingly, connections to Istanbul, Zurich, Brussels, Warsaw, Belgrade and Skopje have already surpassed pre-pandemic traffic levels, while routes to Frankfurt and Paris are nearing recovery.

New for Passengers: Online Parking Booking

Ljubljana Airport has recently launched a convenient online parking reservation system, allowing passengers to book parking for stays exceeding 24 hours. This enhancement significantly improves the user experience by catering to various passenger profiles, including those who are more price-sensitive.

Reduced Carbon Footprint and Renewal of ACA Environmental Certification

As passenger numbers continue to rise, Fraport Slovenia is committed to sustainable growth as a key strategic priority. The environmental impact of their operations is managed with a strong sense of responsibility, guided by a comprehensive environmental policy that encompasses commitments and strategic objectives across various areas, including greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Through the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) scheme, Fraport Slovenia has made notable strides in emissions management. In 2023, the airport successfully reduced emissions compared to both 2019 and the 2021-2022 period, achieving a renewal of their Level 2 certification. Since becoming ACA certified in 2013, the airport has successfully decreased its absolute carbon footprint by a total of 1, while significantly improving its relative carbon indicator—reducing emissions by 60% per passenger (to 1.5 kg CO2 per passenger) compared to 2012 levels.
