World Tourism Day Brings a Vibrant Array of Events Across Slovenia

Every year, World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September to raise awareness of tourism's vital role in shaping the world. This year, the global theme "Tourism and Peace" highlights tourism's ability to foster understanding and harmony across borders. Slovenia will mark the day with a rich variety of events for locals, visitors, and professionals alike.

Reading in Forest Libraries Across Slovenia on World Tourism Day

This World Tourism Day, numerous tourist associations, schools, kindergartens and institutions across Slovenia will come together to celebrate the day with public reading sessions in forest libraries. These libraries, established through the joint initiative of the Slovenian Tourist Association, the Slovenian Forest Service, the Andragogical Centre of Slovenia and the Forest Library (Slovenia's Forestry Institute), offer a unique blend of nature and literature. Together with municipalities, cultural and educational institutions, senior homes, publishing houses and other partners, a variety of events will that unite people of all ages through the joys of reading, tourism and the spirit of peace will take place. 


Portorož and Piran: Celebrating Sustainability and Local Heritage on World Tourism Day

This Friday, Portorož will host the opening of an exhibition followed by a roundtable discussion on Sustainable Development Goals for Change. The exhibition seeks to illuminate the profound connection between the goals of sustainable development and tourism, emphasizing the sector’s vital role in fostering global peace and prosperity. On Saturday, three free, guided thematic walks (in Slovenian), which offer a unique opportunity to explore the rich cultural and historical heritage of the coastal towns. While the walks are complimentary, spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.


Ravno Polje Welcomes Visitors to Its Tourist Courtyards for the Fourth Year

In celebration of World Tourism Day, Ravno polje will once host various events. Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, 28 and 29 September 2024, this unique event invites both local and international visitors of all ages to explore lesser-known attractions, hidden tourist gems and authentic local cuisine. Visitors can enjoy a diverse range of activities, including a tour of Rače Castle and the Gril ethnological collection, a visit to the Roman Mound with its ancient stone tomb and a chance to explore minerals and fossils at the Pangea Museum. Additional highlights include farm visits to taste cheese, spelt delicacies, oils and cereals, local delicacy tastings, wine cellar tours with wine tastings, learning about mushrooms and group mushroom picking, a tour of a vintage car collection featuring tractors and motorbikes and participating in various workshops.

This World Tourism Day, Ptuj will pay tribute to Stojan Kerbler, one of the most recognisable personas of Slovenian photography. On Friday, you can attend a guided tour, where you can explore the depth and nuance of his work. Visitors will also have the unique opportunity to access the Room of Stojan Kerbler, featuring previously unpublished photographs. As you stroll through the enchanting streets of the Old Town, be captivated by the display of photos showcased in illuminated light boxes, celebrating the artistry of this renowned photographer.
