The 2024 Paralympic Games Kick Off in Paris

The Paralympic Games officially started in Paris on Wednesday, marking the start of the second phase of an exciting sports summer. Running from August 28 to September 8, 2024, the Games feature fourteen Slovenian para-athletes ready to showcase their talents across four disciplines.

This year’s Slovenian delegation will compete in volleyball, archery, shooting and athletics. After 12 year, the volleyball team returns to the Paralympics, joined by seasoned para-athletes such as Franček Gorazd Tiršek in shooting, Henrik Planko in discus and Dejan Fabčič in archery, alongside debutant Živa Lavrinc. Under the leadership of captain Lena Gabršček, the volleyball team, including Jana Ferjan, Bogomira Jakin, Barbara Kocmur, Saša Kotnik Hren, Suzana Ocepek, Vesna Pogačar, Klara Vrabič, Tija Vrhovnik and Danica Gošnak, is poised for an inspiring performance.

RTV Slovenia will broadcast live coverage of Slovenian athletes, starting with Franček Gorazd Tiršek’s shooting on September 1, followed by other key performances including discus, volleyball and archery competitions. 

To date, Slovenian Paralympians have won 52 medals, including 14 golds in the summer games, with notable achievements in shooting, swimming, table tennis, and athletics. The tradition of excellence continues as the nation strives for its 53rd medal at these Games.
