On August 24, the historic town of Idrija, known for its rich mining heritage, bobbin lace and stunning landscapes, will come alive with the flavours of tradition at the Idrija Žlikrof Festival. This unique culinary event celebrates the Idrija žlikrofi, a beloved local dish with roots dating back over 150 years. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Idrija is famous not only for its centuries-old mercury mine but also for its inclusion in the UNESCO Global Geopark network, making it a perfect setting for this vibrant festival.

The Idrija Žlikrof Festival offers visitors a chance to embark on a culinary journey where the traditional mining dish meets modern gastronomy. Expect to taste Idrija žlikrofi served with more than 30 different side dishes and sauces, each adding a new twist to this simple yet delicious stuffed pasta. The dough, made from flour, eggs and water or milk, is filled with a hearty mixture of potatoes, onions and seasonings, reflecting the local flavours of this unique region located at the crossroads of the Alpine, Mediterranean, and Pannonian areas.
