ULAY / MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ ART VITAL in Cukrarna

The Cukrarna Gallery in Ljubljana announces a major exhibition featuring the collaborative works of performance artists Marina Abramović and Ulay, scheduled to open on November 30, 2025. Supported by the City of Ljubljana, Ljubljana Tourism and the Slovenian Tourist Board, the exhibition marks a significant event in the contemporary art scene.

The Cukrarna Gallery announces a major exhibition of works by acclaimed performance artists Marina Abramović and Ulay, organised by the curatorial team of Alenka Gregorič and Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein in collaboration with the Ulay Foundation, Lena Pislak, Sidney Fishman and the Marina Abramović Archive.

Since its opening in September 2021, Cukrarna has emerged as a dynamic hub in Ljubljana, providing a fresh platform for showcasing contemporary art. From visual art to intermedia, performance, sound, music and beyond, Cukrarna fosters a diverse spectrum of artistic expressions. (Photo by Ciril Jazbec)

The ART VITAL exhibition offers a multilayered insight into the unique and uncompromising collaborative work and life of the artist couple Ulay and Marina Abramović over a period of 12 years between 1976 and 1988. It will also include various events such as re-enactments, film programmees, and discussion programmes that deepen the understanding of Abramović and Ulay’s work and reflect on the significance of their artistic practice for the field of contemporary art.

ART VITAL – 12 Years of Ulay / Abramović will be accompanied by a reprint of the legendary catalogue Relation Work and Detour (1980), published by the artists themselves – to be published in spring 2025 – as well as an extensive catalogue of the exhibition.

The exhibition will open on their shared birthday, November 30, 2025 at Cukrarna Gallery in Ljubljana, the city where Ulay spent the last years of his life. The project is supported by the City of Ljubljana, Ljubljana Tourism and the Slovenian Tourist Board.
