Exploring Arts and Culture: highlights from the multi-day media event

The Slovenian Tourist Board partnered with local destinations, providers, GO! 2025 and the Slovenian Film Centre to host a multi-day arts and culture event for foreign media. Representatives from seven key tourism markets joined from March 8 to 12 to explore Slovenia's vibrant cultural offer.

Between 8 and 12 March, Slovenia welcomed foreign media representatives from seven key tourism markets, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, the USA and Finland. They were invited by the Slovenian Tourist Board to explore the European Capital of Culture programme set to take place in Nova Gorica next year, as well as to discover the cultural offer in Slovenia, aligned with the two-year promotional theme, Arts and Culture. The Slovenian Tourist Board, in partnership with local tourism organisations, providers, GO! 2025 and the Slovenian Film Centre, curated a diverse itinerary showcasing the rich tapestry of cultural experiences found throughout Slovenia.

During their visit, the destinations offered a diverse programme showcasing their offer, particularly focusing on cultural and artistic experiences. In Nova Gorica, journalists learned about the concepts and values driving the initiatives and programmes of the European Capital of Culture 2025. These include fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting mutual understanding among European citizens and celebrating shared aspects of European cultures, heritage and history. Additionally, journalists were introduced to the various events scheduled to take place in Nova Gorica next year, illustrating the breadth of activities and opportunities for cultural engagement.

In Brda, they toured Villa Vipolže and strolled through the charming medieval village of Šmartno. They discovered the unique architecture of the village and explored cultural attractions such as the House of Culture with its gallery and the ethnological collection housed in the "Briška hiša" museum. They also gained insights into the Art Circle project, in which Goriška Brda has actively participated for many years.

The following day, they embarked on a journey to explore the coastal gem of Piran, steeped in cinematic history, with nearly every street in the city having been featured in films. During a two-hour guided tour, they discovered why Piran is renowned as the "film destination of Slovenia," having served as the backdrop for over 50 movies. Afterwards, they visited the birthplace of composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini. Their exploration continued in Lipica, known as the birthplace of the esteemed Lipizzaner horses. The tradition of breeding Lipizzaners was recognized on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022.

They wrapped up their journey through Slovenia in Ljubljana, exploring the Rog Creative Hub with its various workshops. They also had the opportunity to visit an old printing house in the city centre, where they tried their hand at manual typesetting, design and printing. Following the footsteps of the renowned architect Jože Plečnik, they took a guided tour to discover his iconic works around the city. Their visit concluded with a stop at the LUV Fest, a festival celebrating love, art and wandering, held in Ljubljana from February 8, the Slovenian cultural holiday, to March 12, coinciding with Gregorjevo, Slovenia's equivalent of Valentine's Day.
