Ljubljana reigns supreme: awarded 'City of Trees' title for fifth consecutive year

Ljubljana's dedication to tree care has earned international acclaim, with recognition from esteemed organizations such as the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). For the fifth consecutive year, Ljubljana has been honoured with the prestigious title of City of Trees as part of the esteemed Tree Cities of the World programme, underscoring its commitment to urban forest stewardship.

Since its inception, Ljubljana has been an active participant in the Tree Cities of the World programme, securing the City of Trees award in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and now also in 2023. By consistently receiving this accolade, Ljubljana solidifies its position within a global network dedicated to advancing the care of urban forests and trees.

According to Arbor Day Foundation Executive Director Dan Lambe: "Trees are important to people, no matter what country they come from or what language they speak. We all want to live in a city that is healthy, resilient, and beautiful - trees are the common language that makes this possible. When a city is named a 'City of Trees,' it means that the city has made a commitment that it is willing to go one step further in defining trees as critical infrastructure for residents."
