The Idrija Žlikrofi Festival receives The Jakob Award 2024

The prestigious Jakob Award 2024, along with the distinguished title of Ambassador of Innovative Tourist Events, has been awarded to the Idrija Žlikrof Festival project by the Institute ID20 – Institute for Innovations in Heritage.

The Idrija Žlikrofi Festival receives The Jakob Award 2024

The Idrija Žlikrofi Festival is a first-class culinary experience, which reinvents the traditional Idrija dish with a modern touch. Celebrated annually on the penultimate Saturday in August (this year, the festival will take place on 24 August), the festival showcases certified producers of Idrija žlikrofi, offers tastings of innovative sauces by local chefs, hosts a competition among hunting families in the preparation of venison bákalca and provides a delightful setting for a casual gathering with top winemakers, microbrewers, and žlikrofi enthusiasts.

The Jakob Award committee justified its selection by acknowledging the Idrija Žlikrofi Festival as a notably innovative event in Slovenia. Each year, the predominantly young organizers infuse the festival with modern elements, bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary tastes. This approach not only introduces Idrija's heritage to new generations but also ensures the continuity of local identity, making it a standout cultural experience.

In addition, the second prize and recognition were awarded to the Ptuj Tourism for Kurentovanje – the largest ethnographic festival in Slovenia.
