Celebrating 6 years of World Bee Day proclamation

Six years have passed since the United Nations declared 20 May as World Bee Day, a significant moment for Slovenian beekeeping. In response to Slovenia's initiative, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution, emphasizing the crucial role of bees in our world and urging concrete actions for their preservation.

It has been six years since the UN designated May 20th as World Bee Day, a pivotal moment for Slovenian beekeeping. As a result of Slovenia's proactive efforts, the UN General Assembly unanimously embraced the resolution, underscoring the vital role of bees globally and advocating for tangible measures to ensure their conservation.

In 2024, The Slovenian Beekeepers' Association is set to conduct various courses for beekeepers as part of the 2024 Training in Beekeeping program. Slovenia, recognized for its sustainable practices, intertwines the theme of bees and bee tourism into the marketing efforts of the Slovenian Tourist Board. The country's commitment to sustainability is further underscored by its unique beekeeping tourism, contributing to its visibility as a 5-star destination. In 2022, Slovenia's beekeeping tradition also earned a spot on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List, with the remarkable Anton Žnideršič hive playing a pivotal role. As a testament to continued dedication, the largest hive of its kind is planned for construction in Ilirska Bistrica.
