Slovenian Tourist Board takes leading role in ETC Climate Action Group

Last week, ETC's Climate Action Group, Chapter Earth, comprising 30+ national tourism organizations, met for the first time. The STB actively participates, with Alenka Malenšek Breznik, Head of STB's Legal and Personnel Affairs, elected as vice-president.

Chapter Earth serves as a think-tank in the field of tourism and climate change, providing strategic guidance on climate action within the tourism industry. Its mission is to assist the ETC in fulfilling its climate commitments and incorporating a climate perspective into its operations across all sectors. The working group will also advocate for European institutions to recognize the needs of the ETC and its members when formulating climate policies, ensuring adequate resources for their implementation. At the initial meeting, Katrin Erben from Österreich Werbung was elected president and Alenka Malenšek Breznik, Head of STB's Legal and Personnel Affairs, as vice-president.

Signing the Glasgow Declaration is a commitment to contribute to global climate objectives

In 2022, ETC endorsed the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, pledging to formulate a comprehensive strategy to reduce carbon emissions and intensify climate action. ETC also committed to actively support member national tourism organizations in achieving net-zero emissions.

With its Climate Action Plan, ETC is dedicated to broadening its efforts and exploring avenues to promote climate action more expansively, with a focus on three core areas: reducing emissions, empowering change, and leading the way.

This year, the STB has also signed the Glasgow Declaration, highlighting its active dedication to combatting climate change and striving to reach climate goals by 2050.
