The partnership between the Slovenian tourist board, the Basketball Federation of Slovenia, and Luka Dončić is elevating Slovenia's visibility during this major event. With 32 nations participating, the World Cup is a premier event for basketball fans, and Slovenia, represented by the renowned star Luka Dončić, stands out prominently.

Since mid-summer, the Slovenian basketball team has captured international media attention. Slovenia's inclusion in the star-studded tournament, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Spanish Basketball Association, placed it alongside basketball powerhouses like Spain and the USA. The tournament's opening ceremony celebrated Luka Dončić, who not only received substantial media coverage but also a special award recognizing his exceptional basketball achievements.
A prestigious global sporting event
The Basketball World Cup ranks among the world's most prestigious sporting events. Slovenia's presence in this esteemed tournament is a remarkable accomplishment, aligning the nation with the elite basketball teams globally.
From August 25 to September 10, the World Cup will captivate audiences worldwide. Thanks to their captain, Luka Dončić, Slovenia holds a special position among the 32 teams. Luka Dončić's immense popularity is underscored by his selection as the focal point of the campaign titled "Luka Dončić x FIBA Basketball Cup 2023: Nothing Else Matters," an initiative by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The campaign's promotional video was filmed in Ljubljana.

The basketball world championship four years ago, exceeded expectations with massive TV viewership and social media engagement, boasting an 80 percent increase in TV viewers and over 3 billion global viewers across 190 countries. This World Cup presents a valuable opportunity to enhance Slovenia's global reputation as a powerhouse of exceptional athletes and a sports-tourism destination. The partnership between the STB, the Basketball Federation, and Luka Dončić reinforces the international visibility of the "I feel Slovenia" brand.
Throughout the championship, the STB will run a global digital campaign spotlighting Slovenia as a sports and tourism destination, offering world-class athlete training facilities and a unique natural haven in the heart of Europe.
