Celebrating the International Day of Forests with exciting experiences

The UN General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests. The theme for 2023 is Forests and health. Read about the tree planting campaign of top Slovenian sports climber Janja Garnbret.

Celebrating the International Day of Forests with exciting experiences

In Slovenia, forests cover three fifths of its surface area and most of Slovenian cities are just a stone's throw away from the forest. Did you know that Slovenian forests are home to more than 22,000 animal and plant species, including the brown bear, wolf and lynx? Or that Slovenian forests hold the European record for C02 absorption? It is thus no surprise that a number of exciting adventures, which you can experience in Slovenia, is related to forests.

You can, for example, try out one of the Slovenia Unique Experiences related to forest, from discovering the natural habitat of bears to listening to the melody of forest. Or you can walk among the treetops or try out the forest selfness. Options are endless and the experiences envigorating.

The story of Janja Garnbret planting trees

Janja Garnbret, the G.O.A.T. in climbing, is the ambassador of Slovenian tourism. She is also known for being a true nature lover, which is why it comes of no surprise that she planted 200 larch and wild cherry trees at the Navrški vrh Peak in her home region to offset the carbon footprint of her travels during the Olympic season.
