First months of 2023 marked by a significant passenger growth, more flights in the summer season

Ljubljana Airport has recorded a significant growth in passenger traffic in the first two months of 2023. Compared to the same period in 2022, 62% more passengers travelled from Brnik. The summer season promises a new service to Athens with Aegean Airlines, while Finnair will return to Helsinki after a three-year break.

In January and February, 122,808 passengers travelled through Ljubljana Airport, 62% more than in the same period last year. For the summer season, which starts at the end of March, passenger growth is expected to continue on the back of rising demand, better aircraft load factors and a strengthened flight network.

The summer timetable (from 26 March to 28 October), is expected to offer 20 scheduled services with 17 carriers. In April, Finnair will return to Helsinki after a three-year break, offering four flights a week. In June, Aegean Airlines will reinforce its Ljubljana network with a twice-weekly service to Athens.

The carriers currently announce the following number of flights:

  • Air Serbia twice daily to Belgrade and three times weekly to Niš,
  • Aegean Airlines twice weekly to Athens,
  • Brussels Airlines six times weekly to Brussels,
  • flydubai daily to Dubai,
  • Finnair four times weekly to Helsinki,
  • Lufthansa three times daily to Frankfurt and daily to Munich,
  • Turkish Airlines up to twice daily to Istanbul,
  • easyJet six times weekly to London Gatwick,
  • British Airways up to six times weekly to London Heathrow,
  • Wizz Air three times weekly to London Luton,
  • Transavia four times weekly to Amsterdam,
  • Transavia France twice weekly to Paris, Orly,
  • Air France 11 times weekly to Paris,
  • Israir twice weekly to Tel Aviv,
  • Air Montenegro three times weekly to Podgorica and Tivat (alternating connections),
  • LOT Polish Airlines seven times weekly to Warsaw and
  • SWISS Airlines nine times weekly to Zurich.

The flight forecasts to holiday destinations also point to a wide range of charter flights. The most popular destinations will once again be the Greek islands, Egypt, Turkey and Spain, for which an extended range of flights will be available (Vittoria, Santiago di Compostela, Barcelona, Seville and Girona). There will also be organised trips to Madeira and Porto, the Azores, the Faroe Islands and Scotland, Iceland, Tenerife, Cape Verde, Cairo, Jordan, the Netherlands and Riga, with charters organised under the auspices of Slovenian travel agencies.
