Celebrating the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste Awareness with a new gastronomy video

Meet Jeanne and Matteo, biodynamic growers from a tiny Slovenian village Srednje. They grow vegetables for one of the best chefs in the world, Ana Roš, from Hiša Franko. A new video unveils the story of living and breathing with nature, with sustainable gastronomy in Slovenia.

Celebrating the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste Awareness with a new gastronomy video

On 29 September, the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste Awareness is being celebrated all over the world. In Slovenian gastronomy, local foods and produce play a major role. Sustainable gastronomy is being celebrated and awarded. Within the Green Scheme of Slovenia, the Slovenia Green Cuisine label is awarded to all food service providers who follow gastronomy-related sustainability (and have previously acquired international L.E.A.F. certificate or Green Key certificate). To join the Scheme, restaurants and other food providers must sign a Commitment to Sustainable Gastronomy in Slovenia, which consists of seven sustainability principles, among them also that they must serve authentic Slovenian and seasonal dishes with a local character, which brings forth the importance of short supply chains.

A great example of such a short supply chain are Jeanne Dumas Chalifour and Matteo Monterumisi, biodynamic growers from a tiny Slovenian village Srednje in Soča Valley. Jeanne comes from Canada and Matteo comes from Italy, but they moved to the remote village of Srednje in Soča Valley, where they started dealing with biodynamic farming.

The new video unveils their story of living and breathing with nature and brings their connection with Ana Roš, head chef at two-starred Michelin restaurant, Hiša Franko, to the forefront.
