The 7th UNESCO UNITWIN Conference to take place in Portorož

The UNESCO UNITWIN Conference is an international and interdisciplinary forum addressing the emerging need for sustainability-oriented innovations in tourism management of heritage sites. It will take place in Portorož, between 15 and 20 May. The Slovenian Tourist Board is a partner of the event.

The 7th UNESCO UNITWIN Conference to take place in Portorož

The 7th UNESCO UNITWIN Conference "World Heritage & Tourism Innovation" is organised by the UNESCO UNITWIN Network 'Culture, Tourism, Development' and its member, the University of Primorska, TURISTICA - Tourism Studies Faculty. This international and interdisciplinary forum addresses the emerging need for sustainability-oriented innovations in tourism management of heritage sites. It will take place in Portorož, between 15 and 20 May.

The Slovenian Tourist Board is a partner of the event entitled "World Heritage & Tourism Innovation: Responding to the challenges in a changing world" with 122 academic studies and examples of good practice from 35 countries. The opening will take place on Monday, May 16, at Turistica. At the opening of the conference, the participants will be greeted by Prof. Dr. Klavdija Kutnar, Rector of the University of Primorska, Prof. Dr. Tadeja Jere Jakulin, the member of the UNESCO UNITWIN network at Turistica, Gašper Hrastelj, Secretary General of the Office for UNESCO Slovenia and Ilona Stermecki, Acting Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board.

This will be followed by an introductory plenary session, where the need for new approaches in tourism will be discussed by world-renowned experts in the field of heritage, sustainable development, digital communications and climate change management. The conference will take place live in Portorož and partly also digitally, as well as at World Heritage sites in Slovenia. In addition to Piran, the participants of the conference will go to the Škocjan Caves and the newly listed Plečnik's Heritage in Ljubljana. This is part of the accompanying activities carried out with the aim of presenting our cultural heritage.
