The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism is a certification scheme, which integrates efforts for sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia under the Slovenia Green umbrella label and communicates the green story of Slovenia. It has gained trust of all key stakeholders in Slovenian tourism industry, as well as of international public. This is why it is considered an inspiring example of global standard development. At times when responsible, preventive measures from both guests and tourism workers are a priority to ensure safety, Slovenia’s competitive advantage, which are sustainability and green-oriented tourism, can be brought to the forefront and highlighted.

During the pandemic, 2 new categories were established with the aim of expanding efforts for the sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia. One of them was Slovenia Green Cuisine, which highlights sustainability in cuisine. In less than a year, as many as 25 restaurants and other providers have become the holders, which is an inspiring fact and underlines the fact that sustainability in Slovenian cuisine is something natural and done for years.

The list of all Slovenia Green is available here.

With regards to "green cuisine" it is important to highlight that in 2020, six Slovenian chefs were awarded the Michelin Sustainability Award,  which highlights the bravery and invention of chefs and restaurants in implementing sustainable practices in their every-day operations. Michelin only awards this prize to those chefs and restaurants that have already been recognised in one of the culinary guide’s other categories, attesting to their quality.
