New! Virtual experience of the story of the World's Oldest Vine

Fasten your virtual reality headset and dive into the story of the Oldest Vine in the world.

New! Virtual experience of the story of the World's Oldest Vine

The Old Vine virtual experience is an upgrade of the remarkable story of the 450-year-old vine, which is also the oldest in the world. The VR headset transforms visitors into the Old Vine and takes them through time from 1570 to the present day. During this VR experience, visitors can also get to know important Maribor historical events, personalities and legends and observe the changes that have taken place on Lent over the centuries.

Urška Rožič, head of the digitization project at Maribor Tourist Board: “We started the project in September 2020. First we had to scan the building of the House of the Old Vine and make its 3D model, then the app needed to be developed. We have now launched the product onto the market. With this VR experience, our goal is to present the story of Maribor as the city of the world's oldest vine both in Slovenia and abroad. "

Jure Struc, director of Maribor Tourist Board: “By digitizing the tourist offer, we make an important contribution to creating sustainable solutions and boutique experiences for our visitors and encourage local providers to develop and use innovative products. This will continue to be one of the key activities of the Maribor Tourist Board. This project, a virtual story of the Old Vine and its surroundings, is also a great opportunity to expand the target audience of the House of the Old Vine; with it, we can now directly address and invite, for example, families with children and teenagers. This is interesting also for educational purposes."

The price of the VR experience is 10 EUR and forms part of the House of the Old Vine tour. The service will be available to visitors of the House of the Old Vine in accordance with epidemiological measures and recommendations of the competent institutions.
