The first virtual chocolate festival in the last week of April

In mid-March the 9th Chocolate Festival which was to take place in Radovljica from 17 to 19 April 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The Radovljica Public Institute for Tourism and Culture decided to hold the festival virtually.

At first it seemed that Slovenia's biggest chocolate event would not take place this year, but on the initiative of the chocolatiers, the Radovljica Public Institute for Tourism and Culture decided to organise the festival online.

The cancellation of the festival should not be the reason why chocolate lovers have to do without high-quality Slovenian chocolate, the organiser explained. At a time when the world is at a standstill, the local offer is gaining on importance. The "genuinely sweet Radol'ca" has long been aware of the importance of the local offer and networking. This time they have established a different connection with Slovenian chocolatiers . Since chocolatiers have lost the traditional sales channels by closing their boutiques and shops, they are unable to supply shopping centres with their products. In addition, their biggest promotional event – the Chocolate Festival – has been cancelled.

In order to help chocolate lovers pass the time until the next festival, which will take place in Radovljica from 16 to 18 April 2021, a virtual festival will be held as of Friday, 24 April 2020. The virtual chocolate festival will be the first virtual gastronomic festival in Slovenia. It will last for seven days, from 24 to 30 April 2020.

The central venue of the festival has therefore been moved from Radovljica to the website of the Radovljica Chocolate Festival and all Facebook users can attend the festival events on this social medium.

The purpose of the festival at a time when socialising and the freedom of movement are limited is to offer a different content. During the festival events, visitors will be given ideas for chocolate-related activities and will be invited to participate in co-creating the festival through real chocolate challenges. They will be able to take part in numerous prize contests and in cooperation with Slovenian boutique chocolate shops they will offer all chocolate lovers high-quality, handmade chocolates at virtual stands.

The following chocolate shops are participating in the Chocolate Festival: Lucifer, Tramontana, Dolce Amore, La Chocolate, Cukrček, Bijolada, Passero, Rajska ptica and Atelje Dobnik.
