As a top destination in the field of sustainability, it was selected winner in the Best of Europe category. The announcement of the awards, which should take place at the ITB Berlin, took place online. The Green Destinations announced the winners and finalists yesterday, while the official award ceremony will take place at the Green Green Destinations Day, October 6-8 in Bodrum, Turkey. Bled is one of the top 3 finalists in the ITB Earth Award.

The Slovenian Tourist Board and their accredited partner, GoodPlace Sustainable Tourism Factory, received The Best of Europe Award for successful introduction of the sustainable models in tourism at the national level, within the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. The award was given thanks to examples of good practices developed in Bohinj, Maribor, Miren Kras, Idrija and Monstera Bistro.

Msc. Maja Pak, STB’s Director, emphasized: “In the past few years, Slovenian tourism has been awarded a number of distinguished awards at the ITB Berlin Global Tourism Exchange. This year's 2020 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Award and the first place in the Best of Europe category, which was announced online this year due to ITB cancellation, is another confirmation that sustainable development is the true focus of Slovenian tourism. We systematically encourage destinations and providers to introduce sustainability into their operations and we are proud that today, after 6 years of operation, The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism includes more than 100 different stakeholders, among them are numerous leading destinations. It was just a week ago that we welcomed the 100th member of the scheme. Congratulations also to Bled for the ITB Earth Award."

Slovenia was among the 7 awarded destinations which were selected by an international 12-member panel. The categories were the following:  Nature, Community & Culture, Best of Africa, Best of Americas, Best of Asia-Pacific, Best of Europe in ITB Earth Award. The jury assessed the application, considered the innovative aspect, the efficiency, good practices and general status of the certification destination. With more than 40 certified destinations receiving the Slovenia Green Destination badge, Slovenia has won first place in the Best of Europe category and thus became one of this year's winners. Second place in the same category was taken by Alto Minho, Portugal and the third by Fiskar Village, Finland.

The renowned and globally acclaimed Best of Europe 2020 award at the 2020 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Awards is a great promotion for all Slovenia Green destinations and additionally helps positioning the country in terms of sustainability.

This year's winners have been announced on the Green Destinations website and on their social networks.
