NEW! Idrija UNESCO Global Geopark Visitor Centre
Within the Danube Geo Tour project the Idrija Tourist Institute has opened the new Visitor Centre for all Idrija UNESCO Global Geopark visitors with the exhibition "Written in Rocks".

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Idrija boasts the second largest mercury mine in the world. It is also the birthplace of a distinct lace-making tradition, a specific culinary legacy and unique technical heritage.
Just recently, within the Danube Geo Tour project, the Idrija Tourist Institute has opened the new Visitor Centre at the Idrija UNESCO Global Geopark with the exhibition "Written in Rocks". The centre is located in the building next to the castle, where the Idrija Tourist Information Point ican be found as well.
The Visitor's Centre serves as the main information point for the Idrija UNESCO Global Geopark visitors. An intriguing exhibition with models, exhibits, animations, and videos presents all the contents of the park. For the youngest, there are three different stops within the exhibition to present the natural features and phenomena in a playful, interactive and educational way.
The main thread of the exhibition is the impact of the Earth's forces on the genesis of the region of Idrija and the creation of life. It presents various themes and encourages visitors to explore the surrounding countryside and admire the natural and cultural sights and visit more than just the main attractions in the town itself.
