Herbal Village in Gornji Grad

Amanda and Maja, two inspiring ladies, live, create and work in a little village of Gornji Grad in Upper Savinja valley. They are guardians of the charming herbal garden and the tea house. Their project is called Herbal Village and it is a great example of a fresh approach to contributing to sustainable development of a certain place.

They both agree that there is something magical and mystical about herbs. This is why they have decided to built their very own herbal garden. What is special about this place is its very location: they have planted the herbs on the former monks’ estate, just behind a white baroque cathedral, which is by the way the largest in Slovenia. Also in the past, the monks had their herbal garden there. In the heart of Gornji Grad, but hidden from the eyes now lies a charming herb garden. And there is where the magic happens. His guardians and herbalists Maja and Amanda take you into their magical world of herbs, where herbs gently whisper you their stories. And yours too.

Just steps away, Stara pošta Herbal House is located. This is the place where you can listen to further stories about the herbs, join a workshop to learn about traditional herbs, their significance, usage and their stories and tales. But it is also a place where you can simply relax and enjoy a cup of homemade herbal tea and homemade ice tea. It is open Wednesdays (9 am – noon and from 3 pm to 6 pm) and Saturdays (9 am – noon and from 3 pm to 9 pm). If you visit any other day, you need to contact them in advance.
