With the museum train
The first train arrived in Celje on 2 June 1846 – the first leg of the railway track from Celje to Grobelno is also the first railway constructed in Slovenia. Every Saturday you can take the museum train along the same route (Celje – Podčetrtek) and explore the Land of Celje.
The land of traditional dishes
Try homemade koline (fresh pork and sausages straight from the slaughter) and potica (festive sweet bread), mlinci (unleavened flatbread), capon meat, home-grown vegetables, apples from the Kozje region (Kozjansko) that have never been treated with pesticides, or salamis made to tried and true traditional recipes. Along with cheese aging rooms, breweries and distilleries this wine-producing region also boasts a large selection of fine local wines.
A tree house in an urban forest
A unique tree house made entirely of Douglas fir, a wood native to the urban forest, was conceived as the urban forest’s small educational visitors’ centre. It is the largest tree house in Slovenia and is open to all visitors free of charge. The house is also available for rent.
