Morning carriage, hooves and a fairytale ride

One morning in Lipica, the carriage decided to go for a short ride, stretch its wheels, and sway to the rhythm of hooves. Finally, as a token of gratitude, it taught the Lipizzaner horse how to reverse park.

Clay is earth that whispers its wish to become art

The whisper of fingers pressing against a soft surface, the cut of a wire loop gliding over curves, the tender patting of a tool smoothing the contours of clay. Palms glide over the surface, shaping form, until the satisfying thud as the artwork is placed on the table. Intimate and subtle – as if the clay itself responds to your touch.

Where the wind carries pink wings

Nestled in the salty southwestern corner of Slovenia lies a place where nature embraces tradition. Here, birds that have the main say. Literally. Graceful swans and pink flamingos caress the water's surface with their wings before being carried away by the sea breeze. Yet they always find their way back to the peaceful Sečovlje.

A Stroll through the City – Sounds Inspiring

A decade or two ago, you hardly saw a soul walking around Ljubljana on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Now, however, the capital is bursting with life, much like its smaller but no less mischievous brother Kamnik. It's hot in the city even when it's actually cold outside! Street performers playing their captivating melodies on the Triple Bridge include organ grinders, while at Kamfest, street jazz will get you dancing in the summer heat – the audience can't help but applaud with enthusiasm!

The nature of nature

When hearing the chirping of birds in the Zadnjica Valley in Triglav National Park, it rarely occurs that an avalanche of icy rocks could crash down the next moment. It is amazing how soon after the relentless roar of an avalanche, the mountain birds forget about the impending danger and continue chirping. How peaceful the chaos of nature can sometimes be.

Cave desire

The sun is annoyingly forcing your eyelids to close. At night, ambulance sirens keep you awake. And so, a primal desire awakens within – to retreat into a quiet cave and listen to the gentle echo of water droplets caressing the stalactites. In Slovenia, you can do just that. Painting – Sounds Inspiring

Creating a work of art is a delicious act of seduction, as the artist stares at the blank canvas like a lover waiting to be touched. Every brushstroke excites, every drop of paint is a whispered secret. It is an intimate process. When finished, the artist – completely out of breath and covered in paint from head to toe – wonders how something so primitive could turn out to be a thing of such sublime beauty.

What is winter afraid of?

What is scary, hairy, loud, and stocky... and wears cow bells even though it doesn't give milk? Slovenian youngsters – and winter – know the answer well. They are afraid of the same thing: a traditional Slovenian carnival character named Kurent, who is said to drive away winter and evil spirits. But don't run away when you hear the sound of cowbells! Rather, enjoy the folklore.

Opera-a-a-A-A-A-a-a – Sounds Inspiring

Opera is pure drama in its most convincing form. Every whispered betrayal, every forbidden kiss and every vengeful conspiracy is loudly revealed in an aria that could shatter glass and gives us goosebumps. Compared to this intoxicating mix of music and melodrama, modern soap operas are like fairy tales. Born in ancient Italy, opera has been adopted by Slovenia-a-a-A-a-a, and now you can enjoy it on our Sounds Like Slovenia channel.

Do you know what bobbin lace is?

The idea bobbin lacemaking first originated in Idrija. Well, at least in Slovenia. It is a traditional lace fabric made by interlacing threads wound on bobbins. If that sounds dull, stop reading and listen instead – to the rhythmic sound of bobbins spun by skilled lacemakers of Idrija. Their craft’s rhythm is truly meditative.

A gang of dribblers

Ball sports run deep in Slovenia. The bouncing of a ball can echo like birdsong in a park – a soft, familiar and lively sound. Competitive shouts blend with the chatter of spectators on worn benches. Living and breathing this dance of the ball, maybe that's why victory so often follows. But the true victory comes when differences fade, and the team moves as one with the ball.

Wind rattles and wine

It takes time to make wine. The grapes are first pampered by the sun, then by the autumn wind. Then the wind rattles signal that it is time for a bath and a massage in a wooden press. The next step is fermentation, which transforms it into a divine elixir. It takes several months, sometimes several years, to make wine. You will need no more than six minutes, two glasses and good company. Cheers!

NIST – WELCOME TO THE TOURISM OF THE FUTURE 💡

At the beginning of the summer, we launched the National Intelligence System for Tourism (NiST), taking an important step towards the successful, smart and responsible tourism of the future. This is a system that connects dispersed data, enables a stable flow of information and complex analyses, and supports informed decision-making and coordinated development of the entire sector. NIST enables the measurement of the environmental, social and economic effects of tourism and data-driven decision-making for the efficient sustainable development, management and marketing of Slovenian tourism. It is intended for anyone co-creating tourism.

Slovenia is a country of countless opportunities for connecting and designing authentic and boutique programmes for travel, holidayss, and adventures.
