SPORTS STARS AND HIGH-PROFILE SPORTING EVENTS

When effort, talent and above-human effort of an individual merge with pristine cheers and crossed fingers, the best medals multiply in their value. This is how it is in Slovenia where the achievements of our athletes are celebrated loudly and passionately. Our ambassador athletes and Olympians, who have impressed us with their successes this year, are proof that success is truly in our nature. Climber Janja Garnbret, judoka Andreja Leški and kiteboarder Toni Vodišek returned home from Paris with medals.

Exceptional road cyclist Tadej Pogačar won the 2024 Giro d'Italia and the 2024 Tour de France, and was crowned Road Race World Champion. Primož Roglič secured another victory at La Vuelta 2024. Basketball player Goran Dragić said goodbye to his professional career, and he did so in style! His farewell game, I Feel Slovenia: Night of the Dragon, proudly carried the name of Slovenia’s national brand, I Feel Slovenia, adding an extra layer of significance to the event. Luka Dončić, the basketball phenomenon taking the world by storm with his incredible talent and charisma, also paid tribute to him.

CULINARY STARS

The stars of Slovenian cuisine continued to shine. And how brightly they shine! Slovenia's top, innovative and authentic chefs proved that they are not just shooting stars in the gastronomic sky. For the fifth time in a row they impressed the connoisseurs and reviewers of the famous Michelin Guide. As many as 63 restaurants have been enlisted in the Michelin Guide Slovenia 2024, revealing continuous progress on this lively gastronomic scene. Hiša Franko of chef Ana Roš further boasts three Michelin stars, while two stars were also maintained by Milka Restaurant of Kranjska Gora where chef David Žafran and his team are making their magic.

Seven Slovenian restaurants with one Michelin star are being joined by another one this year, i.e. Pavus Restaurant at Tabor Castle above Laško, which is the gastronomic playground of chef Marko Pavčnik. In addition to prestigious stars, the 2024 Michelin Guide also features five new Bib Gourmand restaurants.

Towards the end of the year, we were delighted to hear that, at the prestigious Best Chef Awards 2024 in Dubai, Ana Roš Stojan from Hiša Franko was named Best Chef by experts. David Žefran of Milka Restaurant and Luka Košir of Grič Restaurant also received awards. Slovenia is a destination where 'exquisite' means 'homely', 'five-star' means 'local' and 'divine' means 'the authentic flavours of Slovenia'.

Slovenian cuisine is young and evolving, nurtured by different influences and a sustainable approach, as well as by the diverse cultures, landscapes and gastronomy of the country.

STARS OF SUSTAINABILITY 🌿

Slovenia is committed to sustainability. It was the first country in the world that was given the title Green Destination. The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism is the internationally recognised and multi-award-winning tool for sustainable tourism development in Slovenia. STARS OF BUSINESS MEETINGS

Slovenia is a country of countless opportunities for networking and designing authentic and boutique programmes for travels, holidays and adventures. The calendar of business events was truly extensive this year. Among the highlights were the Slovenian Incoming Workshop (SIW) and the Days of Slovenian Tourism. In autumn, Slovenia hosted the exclusive Virtuoso Chairman's Event, impressing more than 200 influential luxury travel consultants and tour operators with its sustainable approach, authenticity and high-quality tourism products and services.
