Explore nature in the surroundings of golf courses in Slovenia
The most prominent golf course in Slovenia, Royal Bled, is located on the verge of Triglav National Park, one of the oldest European national parks. Summer and winter sports enthusiasts feel at home in Slovenia, the third greenest country in Europe. Slovenians are hikers and skiers by nature, which explains why there are more than 10,000 kilometres of hiking trails on a bit more than 20,000 square kilometres of the country’s surface.
While golfing is on the upswing on the Slovenian sport map and many golf courses are popping up, outdoor sports are rooted in Slovenian national character. The area of Slovenian Alps has 5 golf courses.
Year-round golfing just a few minutes from Ljubljana
On the outskirts of the capital, Ljubljana Dines CUBO golf courseis located. It features breathtaking views of the three alpine mountain ranges: the Julian Alps, Karawanks and Kamnik-Savinja Alps. At the beginning of this year, the course has turned a new page; new owners who have some remarkable development plans in the near future. Apart from excellent food served at the golf club restaurant, the fact that the course is open all year round makes it even more attractive!
Just short drive away, at the foot of Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Golf course Arboretumis located. Surroundings enhance many different outdoor sports, but if you want to experience true mountain life in Slovenia, you should definitely pay a visit to Velika planina, high-mountain Karst plateau with traditional herders settlement. The tour is suitable for family hiking and biking, and also experienced hikers and bikers. And don’t forget to enjoy traditional pasture meals which are served at numerous mountain huts.
Top class sport centre
Golf course Zlati gričis primarily known by its romantic location in the middle of vineyards, but there is a number of other things which make the area worth visiting. Nearby, Rogla Sport Resort & Climatic Spa, a sports centre for professional athletes, is located. Next to a variety of outdoor sports like hiking and biking, Rogla is one of the rare places where you can try yourself at skike and rolling - a summer version of winter sport cross-country skiing. Short distances between the golf course and Rogla recreational sport centre make it a perfect choice for those who want to fulfil their day with different activities and are eager to explore new sports and enjoy the quietness of the pure nature.
Enjoy summer vibes in winter
If you are skier and golfer in one person, you can enjoy both sports in one day in Slovenia. Ski resorts in the Alps offer great skiing conditions in winter and early spring and Golf course Lipicais one the all-year open greens. In less than a hundred minutes, you can change the surface from white to green and enjoy Mediterranean climate at Lipica. If two different sports per day are not enough, Lipica is one of the oldest stud farms in Europe and a home to famous Lipizzaner horses. Horseback riding is just an option for the biggest nature lovers, but if you want to enjoy a leisurely moments with the impressive white horses, you can choose a carriage ride around the golf course and cheer for your friends who can’t stop playing golf!
Explore the Alpine lakes and the emerald Soča River
It is not a coincidence that Soča Valley has been chosen for a filming location of Disney’s epic movies, The Chronicles of Narnia. The biggest town in the valley is Bovec at the foot of Kanin, where also a Bovec golf courseis located. Kanin is a majestic mountain for outdoor lovers and a brief cable car ride will bring you to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps – if you’re more into mountains, you can also climb up. In summer, the area is perfect for escaping summer heat, where you can refresh yourself with a number of water sports, like rafting, canyoning and hydrospeed. Spring and autumn, on the opposite, are reserved for fishing enthusiasts who are eager to explore a wide range of Alpine rivers in the Julian Alps.
On the other side of the Julian Alps, the most famous Alpine lakes in Slovenia can be found: Bohinjand Bled. The latter is just a few minutes away from Royal Golf Bled– in fact, you have a chance to enjoy magnificent view of the lake, while playing golf. This makes the location one of the world’s most impressive courses. But it is not just about the lake in Bled: the town has been declared the best sports tourist destination of 2016. Among all kinds of sports, you should consider diving in the lake or rowing to the island. For those who love bird’s eye perspective, zipline over Sava Dolinka river is also a great option.
It does not matter, whether you’re a nature lover by heart or not, we can guarantee that exploring Slovenia will definitely evoke these feelings in you and inspire you to explore further. Grab a chance and get the best out of what nature has to offer: Slovenia.
