Changes in tolling system on Slovenian highways

On 1.4.2018, the Republic of Slovenia will implement an electronic tolling of vehicles whose maximum permissible weight exceeds 3.5 tonnes.

Changes in tolling system on Slovenian highways

This modern electronic tolling system in free traffic flow, will be made possible with the help of a special DarsGo unit, installed in the vehicle. This is especially important news for all tourist buses whose maximum permissible weight exceeds 3.5 tonnes.

The entire highway and motorway network in the total distance of 618 km will be divided into 125 tolling sections. Each section shall have a tolling portal above the highway through which vehicles will pass. The portal will detect the DarsGo unit as the vehicle passes by, which will be the basis for charging toll amounts for each passed section. Tolling will be completely automatic, and the price will be based on the driven distance.

A toll fee will have to be paid for each toll section through which the vehicle shall pass. Its amount will be based on the length of an individual section and the properties of the vehicle, e.g. the number of axles and the EURO emission class. The directives for the planning and implementation of the DarsGo system in the Republic of Slovenia are given by the documents of the competent European and state bodies, whereas the main directives are written in the Road Tolling Act.
