Coolcation at Terme Zreče

As temperatures across Europe continue to rise, travellers are increasingly seeking cooler destinations and nature-based escapes during the summer months. Nestled among the forests of Pohorje, Terme Zreče and Rogla are responding to this growing "coolcation" trend with a combination of thermal wellness, mountain climate, outdoor activities, and family-friendly experiences.

Located at the gateway to the Pohorje hillsTerme Zreče offers a distinctive contrast to crowded coastal destinations. Visitors can spend their mornings hiking or cycling through vast forest landscapes before cooling off in thermal pools fed by natural acratothermal water. The destination's recently established Outdoor Centre provides access to e-bikes and guided experiences across the surrounding hills and forests.

The appeal extends beyond wellness. Just a short drive away, Rogla's elevated plateau offers fresh mountain air, extensive walking trails, and a noticeably cooler climate during peak summer months. Together, the two destinations create a dual experience that combines active outdoor exploration with relaxation and recovery.

Nature-inspired experiences for the whole family

Families remain a key focus. To respond to growing demand for nature-based summer breaks, Terme Zreče has introduced its seasonal Blue Holidays package, combining accommodation, half-board dining, unlimited access to thermal pools, family activities, and experiences on nearby Rogla. Highlights include local "Vital" dinners, access to the Sauna Village, organised activities for children and adults, and a ride on Rogla's popular Zlodejevo Alpine Coaster for younger guests.

The Forest Water Park, outdoor playgrounds, animation programmes, and nature-based activities are designed to encourage children to spend more time outdoors while parents enjoy wellness treatments and spa facilities.

Sustainable flavours from the heart of Pohorje

Food also plays an important role in the experience. Seasonal menus highlight local Pohorje ingredients and traditional regional recipes, reflecting Slovenia's growing reputation as a sustainable gastronomic destination.

This article is a result of an exciting partnership with The Association of Slovenian Natural Spas (SSNZ), of which Terme Zreče proudly holds membership. Serving as a unified platform, the association brings together top 12 Slovenian spas, which focus on utilizating natural therapeutic elements such as thermal waters, potable mineral waters, sea water, salt pan mud and more. The association leads the way in pioneering New Age tourism while upholding traditional standards of preventive and curative healthcare.
