Osp Through the Eyes of Janja Garnbret: a New Inspiring Story

A new story on www.slovenia.info featuring Janja Garnbret, the ambassador of Slovenian tourism, shines a spotlight on Osp – one of Europe’s most iconic and internationally renowned natural climbing areas.

Osp holds a special place in the history of sport climbing. For decades, it has attracted the world’s top climbers, while its mighty Karst walls have helped shape the development of modern sport climbing and many groundbreaking ascents. For Janja Garnbret, Osp is much more than just a climbing destination. It is a place where she can step away from the intensity of competition, reconnect with the Karst landscape, and rediscover the pure sense of freedom that first made her fall in love with climbing. Among the towering walls above the Istrian village, she finds peace, focus, and a connection with nature that continually inspires her.

Discover the Story

The story, presented on the portal as part of the partnership with Janja Garnbret, a long-time ambassador of Slovenian tourism, also highlights her ascent of the legendary route “Za staro kolo in majhnega psa” (“For an Old Bicycle and a Small Dog”). Considered one of the most iconic and demanding routes in Slovenian sport climbing, it has symbolized Osp for decades and continues to attract elite climbers from around the world.

In the story, Janja reveals her personal connection to Osp and shares her perspective on a place she always loves returning to – not only because of its world-class routes, but also because of the feeling of freedom, authenticity, and connection with nature. The story takes visitors beneath the Karst walls, into the silence of stone and the sound of the wind, where climbing becomes more than a sport – it becomes a way of experiencing the landscape itself.

Ferratas and climbing sites in Slovenia

From Slovenia. With love.

As an ambassador of Slovenian tourism, Janja Garnbret also highlights one of Slovenia’s key competitive advantages through the story: the exceptional connection between elite sport and a diverse, easily accessible natural environment. Within a relatively small area, Slovenia offers an incredible variety of climbing terrain – from Alpine walls and high-mountain challenges to Karst overhangs and picturesque bouldering areas. More than 100 established natural climbing sites inspire both top athletes and recreational visitors seeking active, authentic, and sustainable experiences in nature.

The story is connected to the “From Slovenia, With Love.” campaign, through which the Slovenian Tourist Board, together with ambassadors of Slovenian tourism, is building an internationally recognizable communication platform presenting Slovenia as a destination where elite sporting achievements, pristine nature, and unique experiences intertwine. Through personal stories, the ambassadors reveal the places that inspire them and bring Slovenia closer to visitors in an authentic and emotional way.
