Historic Hotel Vital in Dolenjske Toplice Enters a New Era

The historic Hotel Vital at Dolenjske Toplice Spa Resort is one of Slovenia’s oldest spa buildings, with origins dating back to 1767. The complex is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation that bridges heritage with contemporary comfort.

The two-year project, scheduled for completion in 2027, will transform the historic Hotel Vital while carefully preserving its status as a cultural monument. The renovation respects the building’s historical layers while introducing a contemporary level of comfort. Each intervention is carefully considered to maintain authenticity. The goal is to preserve the spirit of the place while preparing it for future generations.

Guests can expect more spacious and comfortable rooms, improved accessibility, upgraded medical care facilities, and state-of-the-art technical systems, including ventilation, energy, and IT infrastructure. The ground floor will be reimagined with a modern reception area, while exterior elements – from windows to the roof and lifts – will also be renewed.

Spaces will feel brighter and more open, with natural light playing a stronger role throughout the interiors. Movement through the hotel will be simple and intuitive. New materials and design elements will create a calm, contemporary atmosphere, while the hotel’s historic character remains clearly visible.

The renovation is carried out under the supervision of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, ensuring that historical integrity remains at the forefront of the transformation.

As part of the investment, two of the oldest thermal pools – the Prince’s Pool and the Cave Pool – are also being revitalised. A new highlight will be a covered terrace, transformed into a bright, multifunctional space for physiotherapy and social interaction.

The name Vital – derived from vitalis meaning vitality, life, and energy – continues to reflect the essence of the destination. For centuries, Dolenjske Toplice has offered renewal; this renovation ensures that promise continues for generations to come.

During the renovation period, Hotel Vital remains closed, with guests accommodated in nearby Hotel Balnea and Hotel Kristal. Medical rehabilitation services continue uninterrupted, while wellness experiences are available at the Vitarium Spa & Beauty centre.
