The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) fully operational at all External Borders of Schengen Countries

From 10 April 2026, the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully operational at all external borders of Schengen countries.

New Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external Schengen border

Travelling to the countries within the Schengen Area will be simpler in the future. A new Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external borders of this area introduces an automated registration of third-country nationals. The stamping of passports at border control will no longer be necessary, as passengers’ time and place of entry will be recorded automatically. Furthermore, the system enables the verification of passengers’ biometric data, thereby improving the security and efficiency of border control. This data is then stored in the system, making passengers’ subsequent border crossings even faster.

Slovenia gradually introduced the Entry/Exit System at its border crossings at the external Schengen border, i.e. at three border crossing points for international air traffic and two border crossing points for international maritime traffic.

From 10 April 2026, the Entry/Exit System for third-country nationals became mandatory. As travel or tourism industry representatives, you are often the first point of contact for travellers and help them prepare for their journey to Schengen area.

On this occasion, European Commission, Directorate-General Migration & Home Affairs has updated the
Entry/Exit System (EES)  information campaign materials for you to use:

  • Long and short video on the EES
  • Leaflet for travellers
  • Infographics
  • Posters
  • Social media visuals

Download the EES communication materials

Call to action:

  • Include clear information on your websites about the EES and link to the official EES website https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees
  • Inform travellers before they start their journey (via trip information emails, reminders to check-in, etc.) so they know what to expect when crossing the borders.
  • Provide information materials (digital or printed) to help travellers understand the requirements.
  • Communicate via your channels (including your website, social media, email notifications and at transport hubs) to reach as many travellers as possible.
